As existing diesel trains are replaced by electric locomotives, the reduction of greenhouse gases and the enhancement of environmental aspects are expected. In addition, the maintenance efficiency increases greatly, with a reduction of 1.3 persons per car as compared to existing manpower structure, thus enabling more efficient use of idle professional manpower.

The launch of Nooriro brought about the establishment of a connecting transport system between base cities and the era of entry into short distance transportation market. Consequently, it is vital not only to the development of regional tourism but also to regional competition by increasing population influx etc.
The car body of Nooriro is made of aluminum materials, rendering it light weight and incombustible materials are used for its interior, greatly improving fire safety. On top of that, it significantly contributes to energy savings as a substitute for existing trains.
As most existing trains are diesel locomotives, maintenance takes a long time but as Nooriro is an eco-friendly electric locomotive, it has very high efficiency which greatly reduces maintenance time.
The next page introduces operations and Hitachi's solutions for Nooriro.
